Broad Street Food Pantry 45th Anniversary Celebration

Sunday, October 9 come celebrate our Food Pantry's 45 years of providing food to neighbors in need!

A Celebratory Lunch will be held at 12:15 p.m. RSVPs are needed by Friday, September 30 -- email office@bspc.org or call 614-221-6552.We'll recognize volunteers during 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services.  At 9:45 a.m., participate in a poverty simulation iGen event for all ages. 

 Food Pantry Fun Fact: In 1971, the Pantry served 6,627 meals to 2,209 individuals; in 2015, the Pantry served 204,320 meals to 20,288 individuals!Thanks to all who've volunteered and contributed over the years -- you make a difference in our neighbors' lives!

Presidential Election Discussion at BSPC September 25 and October 2

On Sunday, September 25 and October 2, Amy Miracle will lead a class focusing on the upcoming presidential election.  We will not be discussing the relative merits of the two main candidates.  We will not be mirroring the conversations that take place on social media and on cable news.  We will be exploring some of the larger issues that surround this and any presidential election.  What do we really want from our political leaders?   What issues should matter to us as people of faith?  Do our public figures talk about religion too much?  Too little?  Does it matter?  Is this election particularly divisive or do we just have poor memories?  Why is it so hard to talk about politics?  Classes will be held at 9:45 a.m. in Palmer Hall.

  Presidential Election Discussion at BSPC September 25 and October 2

Director of Music Ministry Bill Boggs Conducting World Premiere Opera Sister Carrie in Milwaukee

September 21, 2016
Director of Music Ministry Bill Boggs will conduct the world premiere opera, Sister Carrie, at the Florentine Opera Company Milwaukee on October 7-9. Bill will spend three weeks in Milwaukee working with the chorus, singers, and the Milwaukee Symphony. Based on Theodore Dreiser's novel that explores social status, money, and love, this new work by Robert Aldridge and Herschel Garfein will be recorded by the Naxos Label and released internationally in 2017. Learn more about the opera and hear selections at www.sistercarrie.com.  Bill's last project with the same team produced the double Grammy-winning recording Elmer Gantry.  While Bill is out of town, the Broad Street Choir will be directed by BSPC member Tim Sarsany.

Rabbi Harold Berman, Tifereth Israel, Gave Sermon on Sunday, Sept. 18

September 21, 2016
Rabbi Harold Berman preached at Broad Street Sunday, September 18.  His sermon was titled "Is There a Limit to Our Blessings?" and was based on Genesis 27:30-38.  He is the Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation Tifereth Israel, a congregation he has served since 1979.  A graduate of Rutgers University, Rabbi Berman holds a Master's degree and Rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.  He is currently the Director of the National Council of Synagogues, the Jewish equivalent of the National Council of Churches. In November, 2015, he and Amy Miracle co-led a trip to Israel.
