2018 Annual Campaign

Three ways YOU can get involved?

  1. Shop! Buy your monthly coffee and snack supplies through our Fair Trade sales, and shop from PJT for Christmas gifts. You can find the order form here.
  2. Inform and educate others about the social justice of Fair Trade.
  3. Sign up to be part of the Fair Trade team that orders, sells, and educated here at BSPC by contacting Brittany Porch, Director of Mission and Education, bporch@bspc.org.

Fair Trade is a way to level the economic playing field and include more people in the global marketplace so they have opportunities to assert their social, political, and economic rights. In conventional trade, the producer generally receives only 1% of the retail price rather than the 20–45% Fair Trade producers receive. BSPC’s commitment to trade justice emerged from a 2000 mission trip to Peru.

Presbyterian Coffee Initiative’s Equal Exchange product line is our preferred vendor. Equal Exchange supports fair trade practices, uses environmentally sound growing methods, and gives a percentage of profits to community-wide infrastructure development. Sale’s profits go to our mission partners in the Congo and Malawi for fistula surgeries.

*Fair Trade coffee, chocolate, fruit, nut, and granola bar sales currently occur twice a month on Sunday mornings. However in 2014, our sales will take place via order forms available on Sundays and online, and product delivery will be once a month.

Partners for Just Trade, PJT, is a non-profit, faith-based organization that builds partnerships between producers living in extreme poverty and consumers in North America. It began as an initiative of the Presbyterian Hunger Program. PJT addresses the root causes of poverty through Fair Trade sales, education, solidarity, and a commitment to trade justice. Currently, more than 15 artisan groups, with more than 200 artisans, work with PJT through our Peruvian Trade Partner Bridge of Hope and PJT also works with Manos Amigas in Peru and Comite Artisanal Haitien in Haiti.

*PJT artisan goods are available online as an Alternative Christmas gift idea.
