Meet our Mission Co-Workers
Mark Adams and Miriam Maldonado are Presbyterian mission co-workers serving in Agua Prieta, Mexico, in the binational ministry Frontera de Cristo. With colleagues, they work in a variety of ministries from just trade coffee to migrant support to empowering women to drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Mark and Miriam and all the staff at Frontera de Cristo have hosted groups from Broad Street to help us see how God is at work on the US/Mexico Border.

Jenny and Jed Koball are Presbyterian mission co-workers serving in Peru. Broad Street has a 25-year relationship with the Peru Joining Hands Network (Red Uniendo Manos Peru). Red Uniendo Manos Peru tackles issues such as environmental contamination from the mining industry, the growing water crisis due to global warming, and trade policies that disadvantage many Peruvians. Jed helps facilitate partnerships between Red Uniendo Manos Peru and PC(USA) churches and entities in the U.S. to enhance participation in global advocacy campaigns. Jenny Koball is the Peru site coordinator for the Presbyterian Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program, which sends people ages 19 to 30 to serve in communities of need in the United States and abroad. In addition to service, the YAV experience emphasizes living in intentional Christian community, spiritual formation and vocational discernment. Jenny recently helped pioneer a new vision for the YAV program, opening the opportunity to young adults in Peru and other countries. Together, Jed and Jenny also host PC(USA) church groups to educate them about the issues being addressed by Red Uniendo Manos Peru. We have had many groups of Broad Streeter visit Peru and are excited to take another group in 2026.

Jeff and Christi Boyd are Presbyterian mission co-workers serving the DR of Congo. Jeff serves as the regional liaison for Central Africa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea. Christi accompanies global partners as they seek to remedy the marginalization of women and children in their communities and engages with Presbyterians in the US who wish to come alongside and promote those efforts. Broad Street has had partnerships with Presbyterian ministries in the DR of Congo for nearly 50 years, including The Good Shepherd Hospital. While we don’t travel to visit these partners, we have been in a continued relationship with Jeff and Christi through Zoom and their visit to the U.S. and our congregation.

Trips
In recent years, we have been shifting how we understand trips and experiences. We have shifted frommission trips to immersion experiences. For us, that means shifting away from short-term volunteer activities focused on service delivery in a distant community, and moving to a deeper, more sustained engagement with a culture, aiming to learn and understand the local context and perspectives beyond just completing tasks. Essentially, moving from a “helping hand” approach to a more reciprocal learning experience where we actively participate in the community and build meaningful relationships with our partners.
Upcoming Trips for High School Youth and Adults:
