The purpose of this blog is simple: to say thank you.

2024 has been a challenging year for me. My dad became ill and after several weeks of illness, he died. In the midst of this time, it became apparent that my mother could not live alone and I have been managing her care and her eventual move to assisted living here in Columbus.

None of that would have been possible without the love and support of the Broad Street community. I want to thank you for being the hands and feet and heart of God these past months. I thank you for food and cards and prayers. I thank you for your patience and kindness as I arrived at meetings distracted and overwhelmed. I particularly want to thank my colleagues who encouraged me to spend time with my family and put in extra hours of work due to my absence.

During that time, I only missed one Sunday. That wasn’t due to a lack of trust in my colleagues. That was because I needed to be in worship. I needed to receive the love and care of the church community. I needed to be reminded of the stories and needs of others. I needed to be reminded that I am part of a bigger story. I needed to spend time with God and God’s people.

At our best, the church is a community of care where we care for one another with great tenderness.

I am humble and grateful to have been on the receiving end of that care.

Thank you.
