At Broad Street Presbyterian Church, we have long believed that housing is a fundamental human right. Through the work of COMPASS, our congregation has stood alongside those in crisis, providing critical support to individuals and families facing eviction. Today, we celebrate the legacy of Robin Green, whose dedication to housing justice continues to shape our community in profound ways.
Robin served as the Director of the COMPASS program at Broad Street Presbyterian Church for five years before her passing in August 2023. During her tenure, she led our emergency rental assistance efforts, ensuring that low-income tenants had the resources to remain housed. Her unwavering commitment to justice was perhaps most visible in her work helping tenants pay their bond while appealing evictions—giving families the time they needed to seek fair outcomes and maintain stability.
One of the most significant moments in the history of COMPASS came on September 3, 2020, when the City of Columbus and the Legal Aid Society of Columbus celebrated a landmark Tenth District Court of Appeals decision. This ruling prevented landlords from evicting tenants without appearing in court—an important step in ensuring due process for vulnerable residents. The bond that made this legal victory possible was paid by COMPASS, demonstrating our commitment to standing in the gap for those facing housing insecurity.
Recognizing Robin Green’s essential role in this work, the City of Columbus has established the Robin Green Legacy Bond Fund with an initial contribution of $55,500. Going forward, these funds will be used in partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Columbus to support unique and rare cases that have a far-reaching impact on our entire community. Instead of using COMPASS dollars for these cases, we will now draw from this fund—ensuring that Robin’s legacy of compassion and justice lives on.
Robin’s work was grounded in the belief that every person deserves stability, dignity, and a safe place to call home. As we remember her life and honor her impact, we give thanks to God for her tireless advocacy and the lasting change she inspired. Through the Robin Green Legacy Bond Fund, we will continue the work she so passionately led—because justice is not just a cause; it is a calling.
Thanks be to God for Robin Green.
Amen!
Do we have a Robin Green Memorial Fund?
Robin truly gave herself to the cause for people who might otherwise have had no one else to stand with them. I loved working with her and sorely miss her. She gave me a dear friend through the Achievement Club which she promoted through COMPASS. I am grateful for the Legacy Bond Fund in her memory; Robin was a strong woman of faith whom I shall never forget .
Thanks to God for the life of Robin Green
