I remember a time when I was a young adult. I was living in another country. I was isolated and struggling. I was part of a small group at the church I was attending. I don’t remember much about it. I don’t remember any of the other people in the group. I don’t remember the topics we talked about. But I do remember this- it was the thing that got me through a challenging time. It was the best part of my life.
Small groups are powerful! As we continue through this pandemic, the session and staff at Broad Street are committing to offering a small group experience to those who wish to have one. Some small groups already exist. Our hope is to provide support and training for the leaders of those groups in the weeks to come. And we plan to add some new small groups. Given how much we are all craving face to face contact, these groups will meet in person and outside and socially distant as soon as the weather allows. Small groups currently being envisioned include one for educators and another that will focus on backyard fire pits!
Here are just a few reasons we think they are so important:
- God created us to be in relationship with one another.
- Jesus had a small group.
- Pandemics are hard and lonely.
- We could all use more connections with people during this time.
Stay tuned to the Saturday announcement emails as new groups are introduced.

I really really need to be in a small group! I am not working now so I
Miss talking with people and sharing smiles, laughs and friendship. Please count me in a group.
I enjoyed your blog on small groups. I belong to several small group zooms and look forward to each one. Having them scheduled weekly gives me something special to look forward to with different small groups making my relationship circle really quite broad. It is very reinforcing to bounce ideas and feeling off others and let’s me know I’m not isolated.
